I have always been someone who has managed to keep the work/life balance in order. I have been able to know when I am stressed in my day to day job, and know how to get through the day, week or month and leave work at work, and enjoy my life. However, in the past couple of months, work stress crept up on me and it knocked me for six. I’ve never been a person that’s done the 60 hour week for a 9-5 job, but in the past couple of months I’ve done a couple of them.
It took me a while to realise what was happening, and then I didn’t know what to do. I was coming home, eating, sleeping, getting up and back into work. I am sure that many of you have been in this position, and probably go through worse than what I have too, and I really want to know how you do it!
The one thing that I noticed was that I was missing a key ingredient in my life. I wasn’t doing something that I love. There are many things that I love to do. I love working and connecting with Spirit, but I also have some material things in life that I love too. I believe that we are Spiritual beings having a human experience, and that when we balance the Spiritual and Material sides of life; we get the most from life. For me, being Spiritual isn’t just about meditation, prayer or listening to Spirit (of course that is a big part of it) it’s also about what feeds your soul. What makes you smile, what brings you joy.
One of the things that I have loved for over 20 years now (I feel quite old saying that!) is wrestling. I know that it’s all scripted and I know that there is an element of violence there too, but I don’t see that. Since the internet came along and showed me behind the scenes of wrestling, my view of it has changed. What I see are people that are living their dreams, working hard to put on a show. I see ballet for men, where guys and girls fly around the ring in a way that makes me go OMG. There is still the 11 year old me that wished he trained to be a wrestler too! So one night, after a particularly stressful day, I sat and just watched some clips on the internet. Then some more, and become totally engrossed, letting everything go.
Whether we like it or not, stress is part of our life. It’s about how we dance with it that matters the most. We also have a choice. We can continue as we are; stressed, or we can do a little of something that we love each day to break the stresses that we have, and allow ourselves to bring our own lives back into balance. What do you choose to do?
