I think the word security for brings up the idea of locked doors, passwords and pin codes, all those things that keep me safe from the world. When I first started to think about how secure I felt in my home, this was the thing that came to me first of all. However, following on from last months newsletter, “A Sense of Belonging”, I am following on with the things that your soul needs for your home.
I have lived in a shared house for over 10 years, and it wasn’t always much fun. When I was asked how secure I felt in my home, I was surprised that the answer was “not much at all”. One of the housemates had recently let himself into my room to use my computer, without permission. I asked him about it, and he told me it wasn’t him, it must of been his friend, which infuriated me even more. He promptly moved out (aka kicked out), as I refused for him to be in the house anymore.
I felt dejected, because my room was my sanctuary. It’s a place where I am free to express who I am. It’s a place where I have changed the colour of the walls to reflect who I am, where I have my altars to reflect my feelings and moods at the time, it’s a place where I have arranged my belongings in a way, that compliment me and also what I have learnt through Feng Shui.
Your home should be a place where you are free to be who you are. Have you ever walked into someones home, and the design, colours and fabrics used are ones that make you think “Oh my god, I couldn’t live in a house like this” but when you know the person, it’s totally them? They are free to be who they are in their own home.
Your home is an extension of who you are, and if you live in a space that is in alignment with who you are – you can then begin to achieve anything you want. Your confidence will increase because your home, the outer representation of you, starts to match who you are on the inside, and then in the outer, wider world too.
You don’t have to remodel the whole house though… start small, and one place to do this is in the self-knowledge area of your home/room. This is in the bottom left corner of your home. What can you do in this one area to make it your own, your own style, your own feeling – how can it match who you are on the inside? You can create an altar, a collection of objects that match who you are, but also let the rest of the world know who you are too!
